Block, on board the S.S. American

thestagedoorcanteen:

Do you hear that playin’?

Stephanie J. Block fans rejoice! This powerhouse diva is taking over the role of Reno Sweeney from another diva (VERY talented, by definition), Sutton Foster! It is reported that SJB is taking over the role this March until September, when the show closes.

Block took over the role late last year when Sutton Foster temporarily stepped out of her tap shoes to tape the pilot episode of her new TV show, Bunheads. Right there on, it was rumored that Block herself will bring the show on tour—but we don’t know the accuracy behind this rumor yet!

Some of her theater credits include Elphaba in Wicked, Liza Minnelli in The Boy from Oz (with Hugh Jackman), Grace O’Malley in The Pirate Queen, and Judy Bernly in 9 to 5 (with Megan Hilty!).

We expect rave reviews for the fabulous Stephanie J. Block! And a bon voyage to Sutton Foster for doing a de-lovely take on the classic role, Reno Sweeney!

Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall and featuring a score by Cole Porter, Anything Goes opened on April 7, 2011 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, and earned three Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. The production currently also stars Joel Grey as Moonface Martin, Colin Donnell as Billy Crocker, Erin Mackie as Hope Harcourt, Julie Halston as Evangeline Harcourt, John McMartin as Elisha J. Whitney and Jessica Stone as Erma. x
