I don’t think people realise just how huge it is that Kurt got #2. Do you people realise how rare it is for effeminate characters to get any respect from the gay community? It just doesn’t happen. Ever.
“Oh, he’s sweet, but I wish he wasn’t so out there.” “Why can’t they ever show a normal guy?” “Ugh, he’s make us all look bad!”
That’s what Kurt gets. That’s what anyone who doesn’t fit into some sick idea that all men must lift weights and grunt gets. Second? Second is brilliant. Second is higher than any character like Kurt has ever gotten. That includes Emmett (who sometimes was lucky enough to get fourth amongst only QAF characters), that includes Justin Suarez, that includes Marc St James, that includes Rickie Vazquez, that includes Scotty Wandell. No one hated Justin Suarez, he was like 14. Couldn’t vote for him though, it might make us look bad.
So do I give a flying fuck that a gay character who happens to be played by a straight dude got #1? Fuck no. I’m pretty sure he’s the most effeminate character to ever win one of these things. What’s more, he is the prince charming at the end of the fairy tale. We don’t get fairy tales out here in Homo Land. If people want to celebrate that then I’m all for it.
This. It doesn’t surprise me however that most of the commentary I’ve seen is coming from straight girls on the basis...
